Sahara Adventure

We set off from Fes early in the morning, embarking on a 10-hour bus journey through the Middle Atlas mountain range. The first stop was Ifran, often referred to as the “Moroccan little Switzerland,” a picturesque town known for its cleanliness. Despite the limited time, we found it beautiful. Next, we made a brief stop to feed monkeys, and although we threw some food down and stayed clear as they looked like they had sharp teeth!!!

We arrived at our main destination 10 hours later – the Sahara desert. We had fun trying to tie our new scarves from Wes in the traditional way and ended up having to ask our guide Mo to help us!! Witnessing the sunset over the Sahara felt very surreal and was definitely one of the trip’s highlights. Riding camels into the desert was amazing, it felt soo peaceful however getting down was terrifying!!! Turns out running up the sand dunes is harder than it looks but to watch the sun set over the Sahara was spine tingling and gave us goosebumps and a “can’t believe we are here” moment.

Then, we headed back to our hotel for dinner, where we were starting to grow tired of tagines. The hotel was really interesting and beautiful it was made out of cob and the rooms were huge, although we did have a little sand mouse as a room mate due to leaving a crib packet on the side! The swimming pool was much needed to escape the near 50*C heat! Even the pigeons sought refuge under the palm trees to escape the scorching heat.

Later that evening, our group sat outside under the breathtaking starry sky. The absence of light pollution made the experience even more awe-inspiring, and it was undoubtedly the highlight of the entire journey, especially as we got to see lots of shooting stars while drinking beers and sharing stories with our new friends.
