Starting the Next Adventure: A Well-Deserved Holiday

After a long 7 months without time off and a chaotic week at work (was also recovering from a cold which I have now passed to Debs), I was excited to embark on my next adventure. To kick things off, I enjoyed a beer with my colleagues at the broadcaster, a pub just outside work. Then it was off on holiday…. See ya later suckers… don’t call me!!!!

Our flight was from Gatwick at 4 pm, which was ideal as it only took about an hour to reach the airport from our flat. The departure lounge was packed, and as we were unable to have the standard spoons pint due to the massively long que (it always surprises me how long the queue is for spoons), we found a seat at the only other bar in the airport and sucked up the premium price for a couple pints.

The flight was great for me as I love 90’s aeroplane food and can sleep anywhere…… Debs however cannot sleep, does not like aeroplane food and was tormented by the 3 different families with kids who were competing to see who could scream the loudest!!!

Once we passed through airport security at Casablance we decided to get a local SIM card, I was keen to catch a taxi and head to the hotel, but Debbie insisted we turn around and get the SIM….. we were then called back by the seller asking for a tip! (I’ll never understand the tipping culture—putting a SIM card into a phone and you have to tip!).

In retrospect, it was a great detour as we was having trouble finding our taxi driver, and with a working phone, we managed to locate him through a lot of waving and “here I am”…. “Can you see me”.

After a 45-minute drive, we reached the hotel, dropped off our bags, and headed to the bar for a quick beer and a light snack. Debbie asked for some crisps, to which they asked “potatoes?” Thinking they were confirming potato crisps she said yes, to be greeted with a random but tasty combination of buttered potatoes. Then it was off to bed to rest up for the adventures that awaited us.
